Limitations:

  •  Financial burden.

Windows Holographic computing

What is a Hologram?

Hologram is the representation of an virtual object or image in 3D space. These holograms are developed with high definition quality and resembles like real object. Holograms are projected with a holographic computing system in front of the user.

Holographic Computing:

Windows Holographic graphic computing is the only current platform delivering Holographic objects or mixed reality to the user.

Microsoft Hololens is the only device providing holographic computing.

Deliverable skills through AR and MR

In Augmented reality and mixed reality environments the real world is empowered with the computer generated sensory inputs such as informative data, superimposed images or by 3D virtual reality objects.

visualize content impressively.

Presenting additional information to the real or virtual objects.

Delivering post learning support.

Reducing cost on the technical and hardware objects.

Mixed Reality in education and training purposes.

Education system is changing and is to change more. Earlier from the materialistic books to e-learning and further to class rooms providing Mixed Reality learning experience. Any changes to the education system and the other is more due to the revolution in the technology.

Mixed Reality environment provides virtual reality and augmented reality at the same time in real world. All these components can be interacted at the same time in real world. Mixed Reality is the revolution in education and training programs.

In this article I’m going to discuss various key factors and methods that can be achieved through MR in education and training. Learning MR environments have been effectively using in various departments like medical education, arts and media, astronomy and entertainment etc..

The main characteristics and the possibilities that can be achieved through Mixed reality environments are as follows

  • Learning from Visual presentations:

With the Mixed reality learning environment, the students are able to have visual                   representation of virtual subjects with 3D and high definition graphics and sound.                 The digital information about the subjects is overlay-ed in the learning                                       environment. This is done with the collaboration of both VR and AR. In the medical               learning and training programs the medicos are able to view the human organs or                   other animal organs in 3D space and able have close encounters with the subjects.

  • Enabling collaborative learning

A group of students can participate in MR learning environment at the same time                  and able to view the same virtual object and associated digital information                                simultaneously which leads to have a debate of their perceptive view and makes to                develop co-constructive learning.

  • Constructive and experimental learning

Learning Mixed Reality environments provides a uniqueness in learning                                     environment by visualization of virtual subjects and interaction with those subjects               virtually. In this learning environment students were able to physically interact with             virtual objects in 3D space. By doing this student may have experience of practical                 implementation of the subject.

  • Enabling interactive environment

Mixed Reality environment enables the student to interact with the virtual objects                  more intensively.

Understanding VR, AR and Mixed Reality

Over the years, mankind have been trying to live more sophisticated life. Technology is being used as a catalyst to the human lifestyle. Technology is always been a revolution in the lifestyle or we approach the world.

World Wide Web services were an evolution in the modern era. We are here, now in the world having virtual and augmented reality with an amazing user experiences.

Mixed Reality:

Mixed Reality(MR) is where the user experience the virtual objects in the real world at same time. sometimes,Mixed Reality is also referred as Hybrid Reality. In this MR both Augmented reality and virtual information is displayed in addition to the real environment.

The main characteristic of MR is that the synthetic content and the real world content is able to react with each other at the same time from the viewer. Mixed reality is the ahead of VR and AR technologies. There are been many devices in the market providing MR environments to the users.

Microsoft HoloLens and Magic leap are the most handful devices providing Mixed Reality environments. With these head mounted devices holographic holograms or digital 3D virtual objects are created and interacted with the real world.

Augmented Reality:

In Augmented reality the real environment is digitally augmented with the digital information. In other words, With the Augmented reality the digital information such as graphics, sound and GPS data is overplayed with the real world.

Google Glasses is one of the successful device providing Augmented reality to the user.

Virtual Reality:

Virtual reality refers to the environment which provides total immersive virtual environment with the help of real world content and graphic content. The user experiences the virtual environment with 3D and ultra high definition graphics and the sound. The users experiences(feels) as they were actually present in the virtual environment provided by the device.

There are many devices available in the market providing virtual reality environments. Some of them were Google Cardboard, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR.

When the user is experiencing VR with the head mounted devices, It is unable to interact with the real world. Since the vision and sound drags the person to the virtual world, the user experiences the VR at most.

Getting started with project

It was a privilege that my project proposal is approved by the IT project committee and Dr. Clare Atkins is my project supervisor. Every week Thursday 3 Pm is my scheduled meeting with the project supervisor.

Before the very first meeting with the supervisor I have developed a few key themes that my project consists of.

Identified Key Themes:

  • Differences between AR and VR
  • AR/VR simulation
  • Applications based on AR and VR.
  • The brief about devices providing AR and VR
  • Introduction to Holocomputing

  • What is Holocomputing
  • Development of Holograms (Unity)
  • Brief on User Interface

Holocomputing

With nano technology in the computing, the dimensions of the world is changed to great extent, from a room size hard drive to a cloud service. Holocomputing is the future computing available for every one with the help of Microsoft’s HoloLens.

In up coming blog posts I will be writing more about augmented reality and Microsoft’s HoloLens.

Cheers..
